Car accident leaves 2 seriously injured

The California Highway Patrol reports that a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in Ballico on May 28 left two motorists with injuries. The accident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. when a 21-year-old man driving a 2008 Nissan Versa in the westbound lane of El Capitan Way hit the side of a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup truck as the driver, a 62-year-old man from Merced, was heading southbound on Ballico Avenue. The pickup driver reportedly failed to stop at the intersection. The force of the impact pushed the truck off the roadway and into a tree.

Responding officers found the truck driver unconscious and said that both of the drivers were taken by a helicopter to area hospitals where they were treated for significant injuries. It was reported that one of the drivers suffered injuries to his lower abdomen, and the other suffered a cracked vertebrae and pelvic injuries.

CHP did not say if they were going to issue any citations or charges against any of the drivers or if factors such as alcohol or speed were causes in the accident. No other occupants were reportedly in the vehicles at the time of the crash.

Besides speeding and intoxication, car accidents may also be caused by distracted drivers who may be talking on their cell phones or texting. Whenever these and other acts of negligence lead to a car crash that injures another driver, that victim could hold the at-fault driver liable for damages through a personal injury claim. By seeking the aid of an attorney, the Nissan driver in this case may be able to be compensated for his accident-related expenses, which could include medical costs and property damage.
