A June 10 accident claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl who had recently graduated from high school. The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. after the girl and two other individuals reportedly left a house party. According to Sacramento officials, a 20-year-old man driving a Honda Civic crashed into the rear of a parked truck. The driver and another passenger reportedly left the scene. The driver was later discovered unconscious in a nearby driveway. Both suffered non-critical injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. The 17-year-old girl died as a result of the crash.
According to reports, the driver has been booked for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter. Initial reports do not indicate how high his blood alcohol content may have been. Meanwhile, the family and friends of the deceased girl have set up a memorial at the site of the accident. No indications of charges have been made related to the passenger who left the scene of the accident. Additionally, charges related to leaving the scene have not yet been mentioned for the driver.
As family members deal with issues such as funeral costs and making final arrangements for the decedent, they may consider contacting a personal injury attorney. A legal professional could assist them in filing a wrongful death claim against the driver for his negligence.
For individuals who have lost loved ones in an accident, legal counsel may be helpful as the family considers the options in seeking compensation related to the incident. An attorney may keep them posted regarding the results in criminal proceedings and use these details to formulate a wrongful death case.
